Road like this is in very bad condition. No drainage and the soil is soft. This makes transportation difficult. Do-nou method is very good to be applied in such areas to improve road condition. |

Do-nou Technology for Road Maintenance
Target Roads
Do-nou Technology targets roads with low traffic volume i.e. less than 50 vehicles per day. It is suitable for use in:- Rural areas and urban access roads (Market roads)
- Unclassified roads
- Feeder roads
Most roads in developing countries such as Kenya are impassable during the rainy season. This often leads to post harvest losses to farmers due to untimely delivery of produce to the markets, inaccessibility to social amenities and result in high cost of living.
Do-nou Applications
Do-nou Applications
Do-nou Technology is applied in the construction of dam embankments, road maintenance works, culvert and bridge construction, flood routing dykes, footpaths in flooded areas, building foundations and retaining walls. Why it is an appropriate Technology for developing countries
- It is a labour based technology hence creates employment without compromising both the quality and increasing the cost.
- It makes use of locally available materials i.e.Do-nou bags; used sugar bags, cement bags and seedling bags whereas soil material is available everywhere.
- Easily adopted and applied by the community hence sustainable.
- It is durable
It is therefore suitable for developing countries to address unemployment, improve infrastructure and create mass of its population with wealth.
